Polymelia is a rare birth defect that affects one in a million or more infants and causes sufferers to be born with extra limbs. This might cause extra limbs, or developing extra parts of the body that usually impact on deformed and shrunken limbs. Eight Limbs Girl, Lakshmi Tatma, Well Known Case of Polymelia
The well known case of this rarest condition was Lakshmi Tatma, who was born with eight limbs in 2005. She is a girl from India, born in Bihar who is an incomplete Siamese twin. Baby Lakshmi has four arms and four legs, and are fused at the hip and spine with the twin. Lakshmi Tatma, one of the rarest of rare cases of polymelia that ever seen.

Later after 2 years, her skeleton abnormality noticed by the fellow villagers which then led the National Geographic Channel to shoot a documentary on her. On November 6, 2007, when she turns 2, had the operation. A team of 30 doctors (working in shifts) at Bangalore’s Sparsh Hospital, India successfully completed 27 hours surgery on a 2 year old girl named Lakshmi Tatma who was born with 4 limbs.

“If I had Polymelia, my extra limbs would probably get removed later, if they weren’t, everyday tasks would be very harder. Multiple extra fingers would probably be fine, just consider abnormal. If i was born with parasite twin, I might die at an early age due-to-the-fact-of supporting more than one person. Extra limbs are totally dead, I might not even be able to walk or use extra limbs. Being born with Polymelia, the rarest birth defect might make me something like media object.” said Lakshmi Tatma.
