But recent research in India found some shocking truth about Maggi noodles. Some batches of Maggi noodles contains high quantity of MSG (Mono Sodium Glutamate), a taste enhancer in noodles and high concentration of Lead. A high Lead content is found during routine test of instant noodles manufactured by Nestle India. About 2 dozen of packets were test in laboratory in Kolkata during 2 days session.

Local FDA officials found that all tested packets are contaminated and they order to remove all the packets in that batch from retailers and shops.

What is permissible limit of Lead in food?

According to Food Safety and Drug Administrator (FDA), Permissible range of Lead in food is between 0.01 ppm (part per million) to 2.5 ppm. But it is found that Maggi contains 17.2 ppm of Lead which is about 7 times of upper limit of Lead in food.

Mono Sodium Glutamate is a sodium salt of glutamic acid. It is a flavor product mostly use in food industry like in packaged foods, restaurant foods or Chinese foods like Chow mien to enhance the taste of that particular food item. Scientist found high level of MSG in instant noodles.

Is Mono Sodium Glutamate is harmful or not?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified Mono Sodium Glutamate, MSG as a food ingredients that is safe. But the use of MSG is remain controversial because of no proven result and some symptoms that are facing by consuming foods containing Mono Sodium Glutamate, MSG. These includes:

Is Eating Maggi is Safe or Not?

According to iTervis, regularly eating of Maggi is harmful even not considering current controversy of high Lead and MSG in Maggi. Because of its packaged foods, which use preservatives, Maida and refined carbs which is really bad for health.
